Make Your Research Matter! Strategies and Tools for Impact-Oriented Science Engagement

  • How can I strategically increase the impact of my research?
  • How do I meaningfully engage with stakeholders in my work?
  • How do I convincingly address the “impact” section in proposals?
  • How can I ensure my research involves  society, policy, and practice?

Scientific excellence alone does not guarantee societal impact. Increasingly, research funding frameworks and innovation ecosystems emphasize impact-oriented science — research that actively engages relevant stakeholders and translates knowledge into meaningful societal, policy, and practical outcomes.

This interactive training provides an overview of current trends in participation and stakeholder engagement in research and innovation. It focuses on concrete strategies to maximize the impact of scientific work through structured, purposeful engagement with stakeholders across sectors.

Participants will explore:

  • The shift from topic-oriented to impact-oriented research and innovation
  • Current trends in stakeholder engagement and participatory approaches
  • Practical stakeholder-mapping techniques to identify relevant actors
  • Co-creation methods that foster collaboration and shared ownership
  • Practical strategies, tools, and real-world examples to design inclusive, strategic, and impact-driven public engagement across disciplines.

Through case studies, hands-on exercises, and guided reflection, participants will learn how to design engagement strategies that align research objectives with societal needs, strengthen knowledge transfer, and enhance long-term impact.

This workshop is for you if you want to increase the societal and policy impact of your research, learn practical stakeholder engagement tools, and design more impact-oriented research projects.
