Since 2022, city2science is a partner in SciCultureD, an Erasmus+ project promoting transdisciplinary, design thinking, entrepreneurship and collaborative learning to tackle ‘wicked’ problems in our society.

As part of our mission to test the course approaches of design-thinking and creative pedagogies in actual learning activities, the consortium organized a 5-day intensive course on the transformative role of third places in Bochum, Germany, between 8 and 12 May 2023.

At city2science, we took the responsibility of organizing the course on site together with Malta University. Being a long-term partner of the Ruhr region’s innovation strategy, we enriched the program’s content with ideas for partnerships, expert input and exciting venues. In addition to the SciCultureD agenda, with inputs, role plays, soundscapes and maker sessions, we brought participants together
with local stakeholders in a “UniverCity Forum”. Organised in collaboration with the UniverCity network and the German Mining Museum in Bochum, the Forum discussed the role of museums as third places and accelerators of innovation in regional development strategies.

Participants developed innovative ideas for third places, reflected on their business models and possible funding strategies, and presented them in engaging artistic ways. Here is a testimonial from a Maltese Participant.
