Successful Kick-off for Sustainable Urban Development in Würzburg!
We are thrilled to be part of the launch of the new Transformation Lab jointly initiated by the City of Würzburg and the University of Würzburg. As moderators and dialogue facilitators, we at city2science support this ambitious initiative that brings together science, administration, and civil society to co-create tangible solutions for some of the most pressing urban challenges.
Four Focus Areas – One Shared Vision
At the heart of the project are four interdisciplinary tandems. Each team includes representatives from the city administration and the Julius-Maximilians-University and focuses on a key area of sustainable urban development:
-
Urban Biodiversity and Climate Change Adaptation
-
(Higher) Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
-
Communication Cultures in and from Public Administration
-
Inclusive Design of “Third Places” – such as Museums and Libraries
Where Science Meets Practice – and Society Joins In
The lab focuses on knowledge exchange, mutual learning, and reflection.
-
Researchers contribute up-to-date expertise to support municipal decision-making.
-
Administrative practitioners offer real-world perspectives that inform and inspire academic inquiry.
-
Social science accompanies the process, making methods, insights, and challenges visible and transferable.
In a series of creative workshops, moderated by Dr. Annika Kreikenbohm from the city2science team, participants collaborate in a true co-creation process. Held at the Museum im Kulturspeicher Würzburg, the workshops act as real-world laboratories for idea generation, developing practical measures, and crafting actionable recommendations.
Our Common Goal: Urban Transformation with Real Impact
The long-term vision: to establish a structured, cooperative, and forward-thinking forum for sustainable urban transformation – where research meets reality, and new alliances emerge.
We’re grateful for the inspiring energy of everyone involved and look forward to continuing this exciting journey. The outcomes of the lab will be presented in a public exhibition at the Museum im Kulturspeicher and discussed in a series of citizens’ dialogues.
