Project Description

We have been supporting the city of Bochum in the strategic realignment of the UniverCity Bochum network since summer 2021. The UniverCity Bochum network sees itself as a dynamic interface in Bochum’s innovation ecosystem. For more than ten years, UniverCity Bochum has been helping to profile the city of Bochum as an attractive location for study, work and life and to position it in the context of nationwide university locations. The strategic merger of seven Bochum universities with the city of Bochum, Bochum Marketing GmbH, the IHK-Mittleres Ruhrgebiet, the Akademisches Förderungswerk and the German Mining Museum is unique in Germany and offers numerous opportunities for networks and cooperation between science, politics, business and civil society.

Ever since this network was founded, UniverCity Bochum has been a key player in knowledge-based urban development and a recognized interface between universities and urban society.

Development of a strategy paper as a process basis

In form of a strategy paper, we created a basis for the strategic realignment of the Univercity Bochum network towards becoming a driving force for an open culture of innovation in science, administration and urban society. Based on an analysis of the UniverCity Bochum network in comparison with current national and international developments in the field of science communication, transfer and public engagement, we developed recommendations for a possible content and structural realignment of the UniverCity network.

Content and organizational support of the network

We are very pleased to support the actors in Bochum in terms of content and organization in the strategic realignment of the Univercity Bochum network. We will include local current developments in the science city of Bochum, such as the Bochum strategy and the creation of the Bochum “House of Knowledge”, as well as internatinal developments in open science and open innovation in the collaborative process.
